1. Introduction
This document contains the schedules of Techila Distributed Computing Engine releases.
There are four different types of Techila Distributed Computing Engine releases:
The release schedules and description of contents of different releases can be found in the following chapters.
2. Major Techila Core Releases
The Major Releases of Techila Core consist of installation packages for Techila Server and Techila Worker. The Major Releases are released once in a year.
2.1. Techila Server in On-Premises
In a Major Release of Techila Core, the Techila Server Image is updated to contain the latest version of Techila Server and the updated version of the Operating System (Linux Debian.) The new Techila Server Images are released at the same time with the new Major Releases.
Techila Server Image may be updated also between the Major Releases if any Hot-Fixes (see below) or critical patches to Operating System are released.
The new versions of Techila Server Images are used for fresh installations only. Please see Service Packs and Hot-Fixes for updates to any existing installations.
2.2. Techila Server in Cloud
In a Major Release of Techila Core, the Techila Server installation packages for all supported Cloud environments are updated to contain the latest version of Techila Server.
The new versions of Techila Server installation packages are used for fresh installations only. Please see Service Packs and Hot-Fixes for updates to any existing installations.
2.3. Techila Worker
In a Major Release of Techila Core, the Techila Worker installation packages are updated to contain the latest version of Techila Worker.
The new versions of Techila Worker installation packages are used for fresh Worker installations only. Please see Service Packs and Hot-Fixes for updates to any existing installations.
For new Techila Worker installations in an updated environment, it’s recommended to use the latest versions of Techila Worker installation packages. This prevents unnecessary updates of the new Worker installations.
2.4. Techila Worker in Cloud
In a Major Release of Techila Core, the Techila Worker installation packages for all supported Cloud environments are updated to contain the latest version of Techila Worker.
This update affects to any Workers started in the supported Cloud environments after the update is released. This means that the Workers started after the update is released, are installed from the latest installation packages.
The new installation packages for Techila Worker are not automatically used if the Techila Server is installed on-premises and the Techila Server does not have access to Techila’s Cloud repository.
3. Service Packs
The Service Packs to Techila Core consist of update packages to be installed into an existing Techila Distributed Computing Engine installation. The latest Service Pack updates Techila Server and Techila Workers to contain the same Techila Core version as the latest Techila Core Major Release. This includes the fixes and the new features introduced in the Major Release. The Service Packs are released once in a year, at the same time with the Major Release.
The latest released Service Pack may be used to update any previous version of Techila without need to install any previously released Service Packs.
For new Techila Worker installations in an updated environment, it’s recommended to use the latest versions of Techila Worker installation packages. This prevents unnecessary updates of the new Worker installations.
4. Hot-Fixes
The Hot-Fixes for Techila Core are released between the Major Releases if needed. The Hot-Fixes contain a fix or several fixes for one or more critical flaws found after the latest Major Release. The Hot-Fixes are included in the next Major Releases / Service Packs.
5. Techila SDK Releases
Techila Software Development Kit consists of tools, libraries and examples for End-Users and Administrators of Techila environment. Techila SDK package can be installed on a fresh Techila End-User environment or on top of the existing End-User environment. The new versions of Techila SDK packages contain fixes and new features. Some of the new features may require that the latest Techila Core Major Release (or corresponding Service Pack) is installed. Techila SDK packages are released twice in a year.
6. Changes to the Release Schedule
Techila Technologies reserves the right to modify, alter or change the release schedule and contents of different releases at any time.
